After watching the Grizz absolutely embarrass Boston on Wednesday, I asked myself, have the Celtics lost their mojo?????
Their 20 point loss to Memphis matched the largest margin of defeat for them all year. They were held to only twelve points in the first quarter! Rudy Gay had an excellent game, scoring 28 and grabbing 8 rebounds, while the big three for Boston was MIA.
Fans emptied the arena midway through the fourth in disgust. And this brings me to the main point of this post. The Boston Celtics simply are not the same team they were a year ago and two years ago. Age is catching up with them, and other than Rondo, their youngsters aren't impressive. Memphis' athleticism made the big three look like a bunch of Senior citizens!
After starting out the season red hot, Boston has begun to slip, and it all started in January if you ask me. Their record stands at 40-23 as of right now. Meanwhile the Grizz improved to 34-31 and are sitting just outside of a playoff spot behind 8th place Portland.
Now from a collecting standpoint, Boston is also losing its mojo. Values for Pierce, Allen, Rondo, and Garnett have all seen significant drops. Don't expect this to change either. The fact of the matter is, that the big three are getting old, and that is effecting Rondo's play. Fatigue is finally taking a toll on their bodies. I wouldn't suggest buying any of these guy's cards, with the exception of Rondo.
That's it for this post, be sure to check out the March contest!
